The gate of the castle was built under the pontificate of Pope Callisto III (1455) on the top of the Podjum - a steep ramp to the gate – to control better all the people entering it.
The Podjum was built by Grimoald, the Bishop of Jesi, between the years 1199 and 1207, and was renovated with the construction of the gate.
