Church of San Giacomo della Romita

The church is located in Via Romita. Formerly a Camaldolese monastic priory from the thirteenth century called Romitella Della Mandriole and known as "Black Friars" because of the black robes worn by the monks. Franciscan monks took over from the Camaldolese in 1452 and rebuilt the church in the early sixteenth century. The current church was rebuilt between 1782 and 1793 to the design of Don Apollonio Tucchi. In the eighteenth century at the monastery of La Romita, was the "School of Philosophy and Theology" or Liceo San Giacomo (St. James College) open not only to clerics and novices of the Order but also available to the public.
